SUMTER & STUFF: or C.R.A.P.

SUMTER & STUFF
or

C.R.A.P.

A FRIENDLY PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!

We just returned from completely emptying a House in Sumter for sale. It had an accumulation of 50 plus years of stuff. Every drawer, closet, cabinet, attic space, and the Garage was emptied.

7 full bodied pickup truck trips to the dump & 9 trips to Goodwill, plus what was taken home by 4 parties, and still the big furniture is in the house until it sells. The remaining trash on the curb alone was 2 truckloads.

People: SELL, SELL and DOWNSIZE!!!!!!

Start NOW and work on it everyday until you DIE, or are finished, and only have THE ESSENTIALS!!! Just a friendly word of advice from someone who just went through someone else's C.R.A.P.!
And this was Mostly usable, and some brand new, and "never used" stuff.

IT'S A LIE THAT:

1. He who has the most toys wins.
2. Ummmmm.... dang..that covers it.

IT IS TRUE THAT:

1. LESS IS MORE

This is just an observation that probably can be confirmed by anyone that has recently moved, or who is over ohhhhh let's say 40 or 50. We just completely went through an Estate, and are ourselves looking to move. This combination really helped us make some good decisions and changed our perspective of

what we WANT vs. what we NEED!

While there were MANY, MANY items we could have brought home with us: It became VERY easy to EASE them into the Goodwill Pile instead. Tools, Yard Work Essentials, iRONS-(Ar Ar), New Clothes, Dishes, Kitchen GADGETS-- all things that could easily have been used, but when it came to bringing them home vs....... well:   Perception Changed!... If my wife and I died this instant: someone would face the monumental task of going through our CRAP.

iPromise- I'm not trying to tell you how to live you life! This is simply a PSA on how to Downsize and make it easi-er:

TO MOVE OR DIE!!!! (CLOSE TO THE SAME STRESSORS!)

I now cannot move & am forced due to RAIN, to go unload a truck FULL of:

C.R.A.P.!!!

This C.R.A.P. was brought home to replace OUR own C.R.A.P., that we will now be forced to go through differently before we move!!!

Crap- I'm tired and sore.
And I'll never forget:

LESS IS MORE!

I was going to take a picture of what we brought home, but I didn't have a wide angle lens!

THESE PICS SAY IT WELL: All Pics from Internet: not mine.
THE CORRECT WAY TO MOVE!!!!

THE WAY WE MOVED IN COLLEGE!!!   1 TRUCK OR CARLOAD, MAX!
cost: A CASE OF BEER, AND TWO LARGE PIZZAS FOR FRIENDS THAT HELPED!
It took about an hour-plus travel time!!

 THE WAY I FELT SUNDAY!

WHAT'S ON YOUR BUCKET LIST??????

  1. OH MAN!!!
That was too funny and too darn true! We have C.R.AP. all over the place here. We have so much of it, that some is in a storage facility.
Less is more, now if I could only convince everybody else in my family of that fact!

great and funny post! Well worth waiting for....

  2. Pat-- As always--Thanks for your comments and support. I'm sure we will revert back to keeping CRAP, ourselves...but it was quite an eye opener!

  3. My Mom is planning to give us more of her stuff before she kicks. Not just to save us trouble but to save us the trouble of warring over CRAP.

  5. LOL! We have a surprising amount of C.R.A.P. too. It just sort of breeds here! I can't even remember buying half of the stuff!

  8. Oh, God! I can feel your pain...it was oozing out...all over my computer...all over my floor. I'm sending you the freakin' cleaning bill!

You are so right on, my friend. Downsize and clean our your junk...we probably don't need 80% of what we have. Having moved 4 times in 5 years, I'm getting the hang of not wanting to move any more crap!!

So, you're preaching to the choir, my friend!!

  9. Dawn-- You are ON!!! I honestly think we could have made around $1,000.00 YARD SALE PRICES with the amount of STUFF we had. But it felt good knowing that Goodwill got a lot of neat stuff.

    Thanks for all your visits!!

    J

K--I figured YOU could relate as I remembered you had just moved! And as for cleaning- I don't do Windows--ar ar-- if your Computer is a Mac I'll clean it! Are we both punny or what????

Actually I'm still running Windows 95--OK so that is a lie. It's 98!

  11. John, I agree with you so much my Friend, it is funny how much C.R.A.P. we gather, Cindy and I found out when we sold our four bedroom house with a garage and three storage buildings, to move to California, we actually condensed it all down to a small U-Haul and I think Goodwill put up a plaque with our names on it Ha Ha

Thank You for the PSA Buddy!!

  12. budh.ahh: Mission accomplished if I made you smile! You are too kind! I wonder why we accumulate all that stuff??

  13. LOL John! Good message though. I was a packrat until college, then I started getting rid of just about everything I didn't use on a regular basis, or didn't have special meaning to me. It still feels like I have too much stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hiya Kitty-- I still- even after posting this will probably keep too much of it when we move. You know the old adage-the day after you get rid of it--YOU WILL NEED IT!!

    J

  15. I love this post... I keep looking around the house and asking 'do I really need this?' yet I keep on keeping it...all of it... why!

CONGRATULATIONS on clearing out the crap!
My love to you, and I'm sending good thoughts for your new home.

  19. You bought pizza for your friends? Hell, I just bought beer for them back then. I did feed the family crew who helped me with this last move though.

My motto lately is if I haven't seen it in a year or wanted to see it in a year, it's going out of my house! I've gotten rid of a lot of CRAP, but I still have much more to go.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I have all kinds of stuff I haven't used in years. I'll start there.
