FORGIVENESS OR LONG LIFE????
PIC-UNKNOWN SOURCE
Toward the end of the Sunday service, the Minister asked, "How many of you have forgiven your enemies?"
80% held up their hands.
The Minister then repeated his question. All responded this time, except one man, an avid golfer named Walter Barnes, who attended church only when the weather was bad.
"Mr.
Barnes, it's obviously not a good morning for golf. It's good to see you
here today. Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?"
"I don't have any," he replied gruffly.
"Mr. Barnes, that is very unusual. How old are you?"
"Ninety-eight," he replied. The congregation stood up and clapped their hands.
"Oh, Mr. Barnes, would you please come down in front & tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years & not have an enemy in the world?"
The old golfer tottered down the aisle, stopped in front of the pulpit, turned around, faced the congregation, and said simply, "I outlived all the sons of bitches."

Remember what mushrooms are fed!
AGAIN--THIS MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL!
RESENTMENT ONLY EATS AT THE PERSON HOLDING IT. A LOT OF TIMES THE PERSON OR PERSONS YOU RESENT HAVEN'T A CLUE THAT YOU FEEL THAT WAY, OR WOULD EVEN REMEMBER WHY IF YOU TOLD THEM!
EVEN IF THEY DO--- IT'S WEIRD, BUT THEY SEEMED TO HAVE MOVED ON. IT DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME EFFECT ON THEM AS IT DOES THE PERSON HARMED.
SO IS IT REALLY WORTH HOLDING ONTO AN ANCHOR WHEN THE SEA IS CALM ALL AROUND YOU?
OK - THAT WAS STUPID TOO!
...BUT I RECENTLY LET GO OF SOMETHING THAT KEPT POPPING UP IN MY MIND FOR SEVERAL YEARS. IT WAS JUST NAGGING AT ME.....
IT FELT GREAT....AND IT TURNS OUT THAT IT WAS TOTALLY UNTRUE ABOUT THE PERSON I WAS HOLDING THAT SLIGHT GRUDGE AGAINST. A MISUNDERSTANDING THAT WAS CLEARED UP AFTER I SHOT HIM! AS HE LAY THERE HOLDING HIS LEG..HE ADMITTED IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE!
RECONNECTING IS AWESOME... BUT IT MAY TAKE SOME
FORGIVENESS!
LIVE FULLY IN THE PRESENT,
LOSE THE PAST IF IT'S TOXIC!
KEEP YOUR GUNS LOADED!
1-888- FOR-GIVE!!!!
OR NOT!
AND YES--I'M TAKING MY MEDICATION!

Forgiveness is hard but good. My mother has lived her entire life in resentment. If she is unable to justify a grudge, then she pretends whatever never happened.
ReplyDeleteSo she has erased my father's alcoholism entirely from her brain. It never happened. He died of Alzheimer's not encephalopathy due to his drinking. (She latched on to Alzheimer's when the doctor compared what was happening to it)
Yet, she vehemently hates my long dead grandfather who had an affair while his wife was dying before I was born. Had nothing whatsoever to do with her. But she drips with venom to this day when she talks about it.
“Hanging onto resentment is letting someone you despise live rent-free in your head.” – Ann Landers
ReplyDeleteJeannie--it does seem to stay with some people longer and stronger than others. A relative of ours was that venomous.

Jen--what an awesome summary--Thanks!!!
