BEWARE "MOBILE HOMES".............THEY CALL THM THAT FOR A REASON!
WE WERE TOLD TO GO CHECK OUT SOME MOBILE HOMES--AKA--TRAILERS...IN THE AREA. THEY SAID THEY WERE BUILDING THEM UP TO SPECS NOW AND THAT THEY WERE NICE.
SOME WE SAW WERE NICE AND WE REALLY LIKED THEM WITH THE "LAND HOME PACKAGE". HOWEVER THEIR IS ONE STERN WARNING!
ONE IN PARTICULAR TOOK A LIKING TO US!!!! WE DIDN'T LIKE IT, AND IT TOOK HUMBRAGE--(DON'T YOU LOVE TO USE WORDS THAT NO ONE USES??), AT US.
WE GOT THE CREEPS IN THIS UPWARDLY MOBILE HOME- "DINO"..DOUBLE INCOME NO OUTBUILDINGS!
WHEN WE RETURNED HOME- THIS ONE HAD FOLLOWED US, AND FORTUNATELY GOT STUCK ON A SHARP TURN DOWN OUR ROAD. WE HAD TO CALL THE POLICE AND TAKE OUT A "DON'T COME WITHIN 300 YARDS OF US RULE"--OH-YEAH--RESTRAINING ORDER! YEAH, THAT'S IT!
SO BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU LOOK AT--IT MAY BE LOOKING TO FIND OCCUPANTS AS WELL AS YOU FINDING AN ABODE. AND THIS DIDN'T A BODE? ABIDE?...WELL WITH US!

NO FILM AT 11:00
I looked at those once, but they wanted a 30-year mortgage. You can't resell them for a profit like you can traditional housing, so I passed.
ReplyDeleteJen,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree--but this will be our Retirement Home--so It will be totally new with all new appliances etc. We are also thinking Townhouse/Condo for the No maintenance aspect!! I just don't want to buy a 20-30y/o home with all it's inherent problems, no matter how well it inspects!
J
A lot of retired folks live in mobile home parks here and are very happy. I think our mobile homes must be constructed up to a higher standard than what's acceptable in the States. At least they used to. However, given the hurricanes and such you get there, I'd be happier with a heavier type of construction unless you have hopes of being the next Dorothy. My mother really likes her condo for the most part and I would love to move into one downtown if I were one day on my own. They carry large maintenance fees here though.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't so bad here yet Jeannie. And the Mobile Homes here now are up to code. I have a friend (the One I went Salt Water Fishing with in Ga) who RUNS the Fleetwood Factory, and he insures me- that he will make sure I get a great deal.
ReplyDeleteSo--we'll see....there are so many options--but this House is KILLING us Softly with it's Mold--killing us softly...
Hugs Gal!!!!

Umbrage.
ReplyDeletePrefab factory built on site construction houses have evolved over the years. They ain't your grandads double wide anymore.
Is your area amenable to heat pumps over furnaces? Little costlier upfront but they are twice as efficient in both heating and cooling.
The words mobile home in this area leaves gasps coming out of everybody's mouths within listening distance. They are still trying to get rid of them in parts of New Orleans. I know the ones you are looking at are different, but be careful with toxins.
ReplyDeleteMark-- I can not and will not have another Heat Pump--LOL! Had one in the first house we built and swore I would Never own another. I need to feel the Heat Bro!! I'm Old and Cold! LOL!
ReplyDeletePlus--I'm thinking it was too small a unit as the Summers here are killer, and it barely cooled the house, and would freeze up- even when it was new.
But- yes--most people have a heat pump--but wish they didn't.

Renee-- I think my Buddy from High School- will shoot straight with me. We may go Modular- or Townhouse/Condo. I'm not sure. The only thing with the Mobile Home is that it would be Brand New, and we wouldn't inherit other peoples problems. That's the reason we are considering that. We would immediately brick it and add porches.
Thanks for the warning though, as far as toxins!!!! This present place is killing us--It is a true Sick House and we have to get out!

I've always made it a rule to not live in a trailer. It seems like tornados are attracted to them...
ReplyDeleteI don't know why...
I live in a 1977 double wide that I've been renovating since I moved in 7 years ago. I don't have the ability to buy a 'real' house, so this is it for me for now.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my blog on it at Http://mymobilehomelife.blogspot.com
