ANOTHER MILESTONE: 2010 4TH OF JULY

Remember- Summer- as a Kid?? Schools out- and there are and endless number of days until school starts back! That has always been a block of time measurement in my, and probably "MOST" of our lives. Along with the Obvious- CHRISTMAS, Channuka, New Years Eve, Valentine's Day, EASTER, Mother's Day, Father's Day--(we still get ripped off), Memorial Day, the 4th, Labor Day........

YOU GET IT: all the BIGGIES!

We wait ,and essentially take these dates, and a few significant others-- AS big markers- set points, restore points, AND USE THEM AS REFERENCE POINTS IN OUR LIVES. Let see, my Oldest is 8- and he was 3 when that happened-- so 1978! We can really zero in on specifics, spanning years, and even decades.

Have you ever caught yourself in such a rut that it's a measured, almost dreaded countdown to an Event- which always carries the Pressure- Of  : "CAN WE EXCEED THE INFAMOUS-" (fill-in whATever, with whENever), and live up to that day--or Perhaps SOMEHOW Better it!

This can sum up this concept in Two Words!

CLARK GRISWOLD:
Clark Wilhelm "Sparky" Griswold, Jr. (born August 8, 1945) is the main protagonist of the National Lampoons Vacation film series. He is portrayed by Chevy Chase.

I am going to attempt to relive my 12-30 year old life. I am at home looking in. I have TV Land, Cartoon Tv, HIST, DISCOVERY, NAT/GEO, BIBLIOGRAPHY AND 1,000,000,000 OTHER CHANNELS TO CHOOSE FROM! Virtually anything and everything I need to look back over an electronic landscape that has been well documented in TV, Film, Song, Documentary--across an entire spectum of media. I can look back with my current knowledge- and re-live some of those experiences.

I can now get the Munchies-- and as I'm an adult- I can actually leave the house at 2:30 am, drive to a Waffle House--(SOBER THIS TIME) and re-live an episode I was TOLD about in my 20's !! I don't have to ASK PERMISSION!! I AM the adult--I have the Money to Go! It is total freedom. I'm not on anybody''s schedule. It is awesome, and yet can be so daunting!

What do I do with this much Freedom, and Control! As long as my expectations remain reasonable-- I CAN ATTAIN MOST OF THEM!!
This sense of Self- or RE-Self Discovery is fun, funny, ironic, scary and A BLAST!!!!

SOUNDS LIKE A MID-LIFE CRISES DON'T IT FOLKS!

EXCEPT THERE IS NO CRISES TO IT RIGHT NOW!!!

Does the daily boring routine get to you? The absolute daily grind. That is where our character truly shines. He/She, that handles the mundane, with Grace, Guts and Aplomb is truly a winner!

Paul said it is an Endurance race--and Having done all-- Then Just STAND!! Sober, vigilant, aware,

STRONG---- HAPPY CONTENT----- & IN CONTROL!!

STAND!

Rusty can: Log jam, Japanese Iris, Digital Cam.. ..........

Heard the Song by Bily Joel in a Top Tens countdown on him on VH1 Clasic-- "We didn't start the fire.......'
but it continues to Burn! The more I watch and look back-- The more History repeats itself.......

  1. I'm not too sure I followed you 100%, but yes, those holidays tend to be indicators of major events in our lives.

Most of my happiest memories growing up were at the lake. Summers did seem endless. Wonderful angsty teen years too. The silly things that concerned us SO MUCH!!! I would love to revisit that more physically perfect me and just enjoy it.

I watched the Wizard of Oz a few days ago too...that movie gave me such bad dreams as a kid. And it looks so unrealistic now.

  2. Jeannie-- I'd say you followed 100%--it was kinda rambling thought process that I tried to jot dowm. But we are definitely on the same page.

Wizard of Oz: Baxck then it was cutting edge!It looks so realistically stupid NOW doesn't it! But it was a powerful visual and benchmark in a lot of kid's lives, and I truly enjoyed it....I didn't feel compelled to watch the entire Movie--LOL!.

Oh, those magical summers at "wherever".....good stuff Jeannie--Good stuff my dear!!

  3. Funny how history does repeat it'self the more you sit back and watch you find yourself doing things over and over either due to habit or for the sake of improving on the mistakes of the last time you did it and hoping to do it bigger and better this time.

What is even more funny is to sit back and watch the next generation do the same thing thinking they were the first :^)

  4. Here in England we don't get that many Holidays! Christmas, Easter, Two Bank Holidays in May, One in September,we don't even get a Holiday for Remembrance Day, but we have a Memorial on the Sunday closest to Armistice Day in November. Of course we have Mothers Day and Fathers Day too, but we have the fewest Holidays in Europe.
Six weeks Summer Holiday from the end of July to the beginning of September, and those were the long, lazy days when it was always sunny and hot....and the days that, as a child, remember the most.

Hear that it's going to be a bit breezy in your part of the world again!
    Stay safe!
