WATER SNAKE REUNION

WATER SNAKE REUNION
This is the first two (albeit bad) pics of my water snake of this year. He was 6 inches from my foot for over 5 minutes before he bolted! That's stealth, and I had already tapped all around the area with a stick.

2 Snakes in as many days---Spring and Life are awakening!

This guys was on a small island about the size of the seat on a kitchen char. I tapped around with a stick as a precaution before I jumped to it. I squatted down and played with this Brad New Emerging Dragonfly---also the first of the year. I left the Island and returned a few minuteds later, to see if he lived. Alas--He didn't make it!.
This was when THE SNAKE- after all that time  bolted, a mere 6 inches from my bare ankle! I changed my depends........
 Pics are of poor quality as it is hard to take underwater shots with my dinky camera. Plus I was too dang close. He is Non-venomous- but very aggresive and can pack a pretty good strike and bite! He's about 4- 41/2 ft long. Love the tiny flash of light in the mid left from his eye!

Can you follow is body? It's about 4-8 inches deep there.

Barely struggling anymore.
This is why I jumped to the Island- to watch the Birth of a Dragonfly--he didn't make it because of that terrible storm we had. He was still struggling to get his head from his cocoon winter home. But you could tell he was damaged.
Isn't Nature Awesome!

Taps..and a moment of silence- followed by FLY over!

HIT BY CAR IN PUDDLE
NOTICE THE SAND GRAINS FROM THE MUD PUDDLE ALMOST LOOKING LIKE HIS SKIN! Aunts hard at work--uncles at home watching nature channel!

    Great pictures! Not big on snakes or gators for that matter. The picture of the ants all over the frog is cool! But I'm sure the frog would disagree.

    Fantastic photography!!

    I don't like to see snakes when we're at our pond. They're usually water moccasins (aka cottonmouths) and quite venemous.

    Great pictures. You're right, water snakes can be aggressive, but as long as you're not messing with a cotton mouth...

    This snake was seriously aggressive last year...no need to think he went to some Sensitivity training! He was HISSED OFF!!

    Some of your posts are like being in a biology class! The only snakes we see around here are rattlers. I'm happy to report that we don't see them often...
