8 TRACK TAPE PLAYERS, UNLOCKED HOMES, AND EATING AT ANY FRIENDS HOUSE YOU ENDED UP AT SUPPER-TIME AFTER PLAYING "MAKE UP " GAMES ALL DAY!!!!
As a rule, I don't pass along these "add your name" lists that appear in email, but this one is important. It has been circulating for months. Please keep it going.
1. Nancy Pelosi
2.
Well, Nancy...
ReplyDeleteI'm a little baffled by this post.
But I remember our 1st colour TV, 8 tracks, and staying outside playing all day with no one worrying that I had no cell phone - and we rode bikes without helmets, climbed trees, went swimming, rode our bikes off the end of the dock...walked for miles, handled drive by pervs by calling them on their pervishness, knew to beware of "dirty old men", didn't have to pay tax on candy, smokes were 50 cents, coffee a dime, an expensive restaurant meal was $2. (remember when McDonald's could feed a family of 4 for under $5?), drinking and driving was a joke (but officer - I was too drunk to walk!), gays were queers, fruits, pansies, nancies, women were broads, toots, chicks, gals and expected to do ALL the housework - and EVERYTHING had to be ironed. The current "blonde" jokes applied to all women. Racism was acceptable and rampant. Everyone smoked. And drank. Pregnant women took thalidomide for morning sickness. Vietnam. The Great Lakes were more polluted than they are today. (You couldn't swim in Lake Erie). There was not such a wide variety of foods. Gas had lead in it. We didn't have dish washers (ok some did) or microwaves (my family was among the first 500!!)... I can think of many ways our lives have changed for the better...even if some things are worse.
I liked our healthcare system when we paid premiums to our province. It worked well then. We were poor but could afford it (I think it amounted to about $100/mnth per family), services were great, doctors were happy (they couldn't always collect on their bills before that) - when they made it universal, and had only some employers pay instead, it all went to hell. (they really didn't think it through)
Jeannie,
ReplyDeleteNobody in the States is supporting it BUT Nancy Pelosi, a Very Liberal Democrat---
I remember my smokes were 35 Cents for Malboro, bread was a dime and Candy Bars were a Nickle and you could barely eat the thing in one sitting! All the other stuff you mentioned is spot on!!
What great times, oh, and if you got in trouble at your friends house--you were in MORE trouble when you got home- and DSS hadn't been invented. An ass whuppin was not even close to being considered abuse! Kids had NO rights and when we misbehaved- what few rights we had were taken away!!!.
