SPIDER ENVY
TWO FEMALE SPIDERS GOING OUT FOR THE NIGHT!
"DO THESE JEANS MAKE MY BUTT LOOK BIG?
(LIKE I'M GONNA TELL YOU?)
OH NO, HONEY! YOU TIGHT!- BUT I'M STAYING WITH THE BASIC BLACK MYSELF. I CAN'T BE NO WIDOW ALL MY LIFE!
Ewwwww, Spiders just creep me out. I lived where there were black widows and my brother got bite by one playing in the yard. His leg had swollen to twice its size and he was hospitalized for a week. Now we live where there are brown recluse spiders with their flesh eating venom, Yay, from the pan to the fire, Eh!
We have both in SC, and we had a Black Widow bite in the Urgent Care a month or so ago. Luckily they brought the spider in ALIVE. We sent them asap to the Trauma center and the outcome was favorable. Multi- doses of anti-venom and it usually takes 1-3.
Every time they went to discharge her, her arm would re-swell, she was bitten on the finger, and it would double in size. Thank goodness they did not have to split the skin to keep it from ripping. There were very minimal abdominal signs cramping and vomiting) which Black Widows usually produce along with intense pain.
I have seen two Brown recluse bites. One not bad; the other , was to say gross. The crater it left from the necrosis in the skin was huge and required grafts.
I'm sorry your brother was bitten, but glad he's OK. And as far as the Black Widow vs. the Brown recluse. I've sen literally 100's of Black Widows ( of course I was looking for them)and I've only seen ONE Brown Recluse. (Hence the name? LOL????
Just check closets and especially shoes in closets and you should be OK.

the only thing I like about our cold winters is that they tend to discourage venomous things.
